Look for the Bièvre: the Invisible River of Paris

Now invisible in the capital, the Bièvre river still runs under the streets to join the major river nearby: the Seine. It shaped the story of the 13th arrdondissement so well that it is impossible to understand why the Gobelins Manufactory is there without knowing this river.

Overused and overpolluted, the government decided to cover it in the early 20th century. By looking for the river, we will cross some of the most charming places of Paris!

This tour is easy to follow for children but there is a lot of walk. So I recommend this tour only from 8 years old.

How long is the tour?

If you need a short version (family tours or just because you prefer), 2 hours is the minimum to appreciate this tour. If you are in no hurry, a 3 hours tour is valued to see more small streets and make a bigger loop in the Butte-aux-Cailles neighbourhood.

Is there a day we cannot make this tour?

No, the tour happens rain or shine. Everything is outside so no timetable to follow.

Is there a lot of walk?

The tour is between 1.7 and 2.4 miles long. Breaks are possible on the way.

Is this visit wheelchair accesible ?

In spite of few steeps, the tour is wheelchair accessible.

Good to know

There are not many free toilets on the way, it is better to keep small change (50 cts, 1€ or 2€) just in case.

Dress apropriately for the weather.

There are drinking fountains on the way to fill a bottle in case of heat.
